Home Instead History & Mission
For nearly three decades, Home Instead has delivered compassionate, high-quality care to seniors around the globe. To Us, It’s Personal®
In 2009, Debbie and Fred Franchuk saw a need in the community for personalized care that met the needs of seniors wherever they called home. Debbie was working as an Alberta Services Home Care Nurse and saw seniors struggling to live at home with the care they were receiving from the public system. As a Registered Nurse she was used to helping her patients and unfortunately, she found that there wasn’t enough support for seniors who wished to age at home. The public system funneled seniors into congregate living settings where one staff member could care for multiple people at once. That’s when Debbie and Fred embarked on their mission to change the way Calgary’s seniors were being care for by providing them with a personalized approach to home care where their individual needs and preferences were recognized and honored.
A few years later, Stephen Franchuk who is their son saw the impact that Home Instead was having on seniors the community and he decided he needed to be a part of this mission. Inspired by the stories he heard, he decided to partner with his parents where they then opened two additional offices here in Calgary. They continue to help seniors in the Calgary area who are looking for the opportunity to age at home. Today, the Franchuks now guide a team of amazing individuals who work at Home Instead and also want to help support seniors in the community where we all live. Our local team of over 200 caring Calgarians are committed to providing seniors with dignity as they age.
