We are thrilled to recognize Lorie as our Care Professional of the Month for December 2022
Lorie, you have been with Home Instead since Oct of 2021 and have served 4 different clients. Early on you mentioned to me that you would let me in on a little secret you whispered, “I like the older ones”. I think each Care Pro comes to this job for a specific reason and yours was to truly make a difference in these seniors’ lives. You have been very committed to serving your clients with continuity and tender loving care. Continuity is so important for all our clients, but especially those who are struggling to get settled in a whole new world, including a struggling couple.
Their daughter called our office in November of last year. She had to move her parents off their farm, where they had lived their whole lives, and into a long- term care home. This was such a big change for them: from having all that space for miles around, to a small suite with people everywhere and both facing memory loss. Their situation was escalating. The wife’s dementia was progressing, and her husband’s frustration was growing. You came along at the right time with years of experience and the heart for this work. The introduction could not have gone better. The daughter recognized you and was relieved because of your skill. You connected with this couple instantly and helped them to settle. This helped put the family at ease. I was fortunate enough to have an inside ear on how happy this family was, as my husband worked with this daughter. He shared that she was singing the praises of Home Instead at work. She shared the relief of how her parents new Care Pro has already made such a huge difference in their lives and help take so much stress off.
Then there is Doris. You have come to the office to share many reports, keeping us all up to date with what has been going on. You take the time to sit with our Client Care Coordinator to go over the changes and best strategies to help this client and keep her safe in her home.
Sadly, she is in the hospital now but because of what you do she was able to stay in her home until she was 99 years old! Not many people can say that!
Linda has also benefited from your friendship, understanding and your advocacy. You understand that her frustration and agitation comes from her pain. You step in to ease tension between her and the care home staff members. You are helping her meet her needs in a way that keeps her dignity intact. She will be happy to have you back.
On top of all this great work, you are an amazing family caregiver as well, the hardest job of all, and still have enough to share with others in need.
We thank you for all that you do and congratulations!
