Combating Wave Five of Covid-19
For the past 23 months we have adapted to Covid and the challenges it has presented. We are continuing to work tirelessly to provide the same outstanding care we always have despite the ongoing COVID restrictions. As you know, the newest Covid-19 variant is spreading quicker than previous variants and we are seeing the highest number of infections in this 5th wave than any wave before. This and the normal cold/ flu viruses are impacting many of us and our loved ones.
As this 5th wave of Covid-19 continues, we are continuing to ensure our clients are kept safe by continuing to enforce certain protective measures. All of our CAREGivers must complete our daily fit for work screening prior to starting their shift. They are not allowed to go to work with any symptoms and are sent for PCR testing with AHS guidance as needed. We also have continuous Masking and Face Shields for all of our CAREGivers during their entire shift to protect your loved one and the CAREGiver from exposure. These precautions have proven to help prevent any transmission to keep both CAREGivers and clients safe!
Vaccinations Help Keep People Safe
Our hospital system and health care workers are being taxed like never before. The vaccination status of our loved ones is directly related to the percentages of admissions we are seeing to the hospital. We encourage all of our staff, CAREGivers and families to get vaccinated if able to. This simple act will protect our loved ones during this and potential future waves from hospitalization and ICU admission and death.
Although well over 90% of our employees are double vaccinated, the new Omicron variant is resulting in increased illness. We continue to promote vaccination and boosters for our staff as they are recommended by AHS.
Home is the Safest Place to Be
Home continues to be the safest place for seniors to age. During this wave we are seeing many of the same care facilities/buildings on Outbreak, which means many families again are limited in who can visit, how often and if they are even allowed into the unit their loved one lives on. This is increasingly difficult for families and also those seniors who are locked in their rooms. So many families feel very worried and anxious about the care their loved one isn’t receiving and can’t be there to advocate like they want to. Never before have we seen such stress and worry from the daughters and sons we speak with.
We encourage you to call us if we can answer any questions for you, or you are ready to see how Home Instead can help you care for your loved one in the comfort of their current home environment. Not only is home the most comfortable place, it’s also the safest. Call us at (403) 984-9225!
