Every month, Home Instead Toronto West chooses one CAREgiver as the CAREgiver of the month to celebrate and recognize his/her contributions and devotions to the care and support of seniors. This month, Ishana stood out of the crowd as being our truly remarkable hero!
Who is Ishana?
Ishana has been working with us for almost 2 years now.
Ishana is personally exemplary, professionally excellent and deeply compassionate. At the core of her work she enables her client's to achieve the tasks of daily living, but also to find joy in their personal independence that she celebrates with them.She has a very special and rich relationship with her current client, with whom she works up to 44 hours per week! Her client's deepest desire was to remain home, but she was not confident that she will be safe and secure in her own home without assistance.
The trusting relationships Ishana gently cultivates with those she cares for is her natural approach to caring for others.

One year ago, Home Instead Toronto West received an emergency referral from a public service care provider. Due to the length of hours (12 hour shifts) and extensive personal support, the care provider could not meet the client's needs. The client was on the immediate and emergency Long Term Care placement list.
To compound the situation, the client's first language was Russian with a significant dementia based cognitive challenge. When we reached out to Ishana and asked her to provide care for the new client, with no hesitation, Ishana stepped up and agreed to support her and her family at their time of greatest need. For over 2 full weeks Ishana tirelessly supported the client until her emergency placement was confirmed.
At a time when our office needed to serve a family need and support our public service system Ishana was there with dignity and compassion.

Ishana makes every effort to hear and value the stories and experiences of her clients to more effectively care for and support them and their families. The depth of her commitment to her work and her clients care is always diligent and continually inspirational to our entire team. Ishana is an extremely effective communicator and very responsible team member.
From her first screen and interview process to the challenging work she carries everyday she has always honoured her relationship with her administrative support team and the values of Home Instead. We deeply appreciate her caregiving skills, compassionate personality and generous spirit.
