Holiday cheer: 'Be A Santa to a Senior' program returns to Burnaby
The Home Instead team is thrilled to report that its 2021 “BE A SANTA TO A SENIOR” campaign is shaping up tremendously!!
As each of us adjusts to the ‘new normal’, the pandemic has taken a toll, particularly on seniors, when it comes to isolation and loneliness. Many seniors at care homes have had little to no visits from loved ones, and lack of social engagement and depressive feelings are becoming a major concern.
Our annual “BE A SANTA TO A SENIOR” program is a humble effort to connect with the seniors in our community and show how valued they are. As part of the 2021 campaign Home Instead Burnaby will be providing holiday gifts to roughly 300 seniors in our area.
Home Instead is proud to have kept the program running in Burnaby for 2020, admittedly a more difficult time during the pandemic. And we are thrilled that for 2021 we will be able to include more people for support (esp. vaccinated volunteers), who are eager to devote their time and efforts to help seniors within our community beat the “holiday blues”.
On the topic of volunteers, a special shoutout to the students at the Chaffe Burke Elementary School in Burnaby, who will be preparing personalized postcards for each senior under the 2021 campaign. We are grateful to these students for their thoughtful and kind participation.
Thanks for the support of our partner London Drugs for hosting the Christmas tree at their store (4970 Kingsway Ave, Burnaby), carrying ornaments with seniors’ gift wishes on them.
Team Home Instead is proud to be recognized by Burnaby Now for this effort. Such coverage goes a long way in creating awareness about how the holiday season is a lonelier time for isolated seniors within our community and how small, thoughtful gestures from all of us within the community can make a big difference.
