Congratulations, Virginia E for being our Caregiver of the Month – December 2023!!

Virginia has been the longest tenured caregiver with Home Instead Burnaby and South Vancouver and proven herself to be a superhuman in her efforts to support her clients! She is our go option for any client unusually resistant to care or having excessively complex care needs. Virginia is always able to find common ground and make her clients feel important and at ease. She specializes in supporting seniors with advanced memory decline, or those needing elevated care post hospitalization. Her ingenuity, compassion and perseverance has helped many clients regain their health and happiness. Families are never short of praising Virginia for her skills and diligence. It is a matter of pride to have you as part of our team, Virginia!

Where were you born? Where did you grow up?

I was born in Santa Cruz Bolivia. I grew up in La Paz City Bolivia.

How long have you worked at Home Instead?

I have been working with Home Instead Burnaby and South Vancouver since Jul 2014.

What is your favourite part about being a care pro?

I enjoy working with all my clients, everyone is special to me. However, my favorite story was with Joy. She was an amazing woman, very smart and independent. She was a fighter till the very end. We shared admiration for our career as medical laboratorists. We liked listening to music and talking about a wide range of life topics. She was not only my favorite client but also a dear friend. I miss her a lot.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am from Bolivia. I grew up in a wonderful family. I went to the University Mayor de San Andres in La Paz Bolivia, where I gained two degrees. I am Biochemist and medical laboratorist. I worked over 20 years in this field in a private hospital and it was amazing. In 1992, I got married to my wonderful husband, and we have two lovely children together.

In 2008 we migrated to Canada and during these 15 years have built a new life here. It is not the same as Bolivia, but it is a beautiful life here too. I changed my professional path. I am still working in the health field as a caregiver and really enjoy my job. Importantly, I am content that I am able to provide good care with kindness, empathy, love and respect to my clients.

God bless you, Virginia!
