Congratulations, Sally V, for being our Caregiver of the Month – September 2023!!
Sally is one of our most experienced, tenured and dedicated carepros. Her many years of experience has made her an expert at handling seniors with a wide range of physical and cognitive decline. Her skills, compassion and empathy towards seniors, particularly those who are dealing with dementia, has always been appreciated by the clients and their families alike.
We truly appreciate the wonderful care you provide for our clients, and we hope you continue to go from strength to strength in the years to come!
Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
I was born and grew up in the Philippines.
How long have you worked at Home Instead?
I've been working in Home Instead Senior Care for over 10 years now. I initially started working in West Vancouver, and now it’s been over a year working with the Burnaby and South Vancouver branch.
What is your favourite part about being a care pro?
Given that I have 10 years of experience in this field I have many cherished memories working as a caregiver. The best part of it to me is seeing my senior clients smile and that is what makes me the happiest. Providing compassionate care and assistance to my clients with their daily routine, preparing healthy meals, helping them with their hygiene, dressing, are very important to me and the happiness and respite it brings to clients and their families gives me great joy.
Through my experiences as a caregiver, I have realized that attention to the littlest things impact the lives of my clients by leaps and bounds. Taking a senior out for a short walk and some fresh air can change their whole mood for the rest of the day. I have noticed that providing a clean, neat and organized home environment definitely brings about more structure and makes life easy, especially for seniors who find daily activities to be a struggle especially those who are challenged by dementia and other cognitive dysfunctions. The direct support to my clients and my focus on detailed homemaking have often appreciated by clients and their families, and it really makes my day!
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am 53 years old. I am the 5th in a family of 7 children. I have a wonderful Mom who I s84 years old. My Dad passed away 43 years ago. My mom is the most important person in my life, and I love her very much. I always try to find a way to spend time with her and care for her just like I do for all my clients.
My journey so far has been consistent, and I have been happy with my accomplishments since coming to Canada.
I have been in Canda for 16 years now, and for me, this is the best place to live. I have worked hard and saved to pursue my big dream. After many years of dedicated work my I have achieved my dream and I now own a beautiful apartment; something I am very proud of!
God bless you, Sally!
