CAREGiver of the Month - Oct 2021

Congratulations, June K, for being our CAREGiver of the Month for Oct 2021! June is an immensely talented individual, who as caregiver brings comfort and happiness to her clients through her talent and rich experiences.

Where were you born? Where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in a countryside town in Kenya, with our home facing scenic view of the Aberdares ranges and lake Olbolosat. Growing up there were frequent experiences with wildlife, and the hippopotamus in particular!!

How long have you worked at Home Instead?

I have been working at Home Instead since Feb 2021.

What’s your favorite part of caregiving?

The favorite part of being a caregiver for me is the feeling that I'm doing something positive and rewarding with my time, making a difference in the lives on seniors. When I started as a caregiver I wondered if I would be able to do a good job for my clients and felt anxious about it. But the work is so fulfilling and gave me so much satisfaction to know that I'm having a beneficial impact, especially when I noticed my clients looking comfortable, happy, and most of all safe because of my efforts. Over time, I have come to embrace what I do, and no longer question myself about being a caregiver. It is truly my passion!

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I am the last born in a family of 3 girls, and prior to moving to Canada, I was an elementary teacher by profession. I was living with three nephews and a niece. I believe the seeds of my natural inclination towards caregiving were sowed there, as I cared for my niece and nephews as my own children, my parents, and my students as well. It is through these early experiences that I realized that caregiving was an innate characteristic that I must have inherited. Now in my 30s, I am enjoying balance in my life with the ability to purse further studies in Canada, while continuing my passion for caregiving through my work at Home Instead. The whole team is very warm and focused on ensuring my work is organized well, so that all I need to focus on is caring for my clients.

God bless you, June!
