We are thrilled to announce our March Care Professional of the Month Award Winner - Alison! We asked Alison to tell us a little more about herself and her time here at Home Instead. Read what she had to say below.
Where were you born and where did you grow up?
I was born in Toronto.
How long have you worked at Home Instead?
I started working with Home Instead in November 2022
What is your favorite part of caregiving?
My favourite part of caregiving is the chance to learn about people’s lives and to find out what has mattered most to them. I find it powerful and poignant to meet people at this stage of life, where history meets vulnerability. I invite them to share their stories so I get a better sense of who they’ve been, and they get a chance to be known and supported in a way that’s different from what family can provide.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’ve always been a people person, and working with seniors is very satisfying for many reasons. In addition to offering senior care, I’m also a musician and Music Care Provider, so I always like to find out about the musical interests of my clientele. Music activates their energy and their memories, and I love watching how it both comforts them and brings them to life. It’s often an important part of our time together. Music can be such a lifeline, and can brighten up anyone's day. I've learned a lot of new-to-me music from my clients and I love it!
