March 2022 Care Professional of the Month - Geneva Wilson
We are pleased to announce Geneva Wilson as the sixth recipient of Home Instead Markham’s Care Professional of the Month award for March 2022.
Geneva has been employed by our office since July of 2021 and has made a huge impact on our organization. She was born and raised in the Jamaican resort town of Ocho Rios and previously worked in the beauty/wellness sector in roles such as cosmetologist, massage therapist, and makeup artist. Outside of work she loves to sing, read books, go shopping, and engage in conversations with others. She is very close to her family having a husband and two wonderful children. Faith also plays a very important role in Geneva’s day to day as she has been a practicing Christian her entire life.
Working as a Personal Support Worker was a second career for Geneva and was a path she pursued at the insistence of someone close to her. Clearly this person knew Geneva very well and recognized that her caring and compassionate nature would be best served looking after our senior population. She worked as PSW for a few years before joining Home Instead where she has been given more opportunities to make positive differences in the lives of others. Geneva is always of the mindset that seniors have played such a huge role in society for many years, and they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. It gives her great joy seeing her clients and family members daily. Geneva treats all of her clients as the unique individuals they are and how she would want herself or one of her family members to be treated.
Geneva is one of the hardest working people we have ever met who takes the responsibility she has for her clients extremely seriously. She does whatever she can to ensure the care plan is followed and that all her client’s needs are being met. Geneva has such an easy-going personality that clients and families always love. In fact, so much so that a family member has joked that “we are not allowed to take Geneva from them” because she plays such a critical role in their lives. As much as she values ensuring all tasks are completed for her client, she never fails to make time to simply have deep conversations with them and take care of their emotional needs too.
Caring, committed, and humble are some of the words that come to mind when thinking of Geneva. She believes that life is like a story written in different ways. It’s how you read the story and obtain knowledge that will end up impacting your own life story someday. She inspires us at the office all the time and we are so lucky to have her on our team. Thanks for all that you do Geneva and congratulations on this well-deserved award!
