May 2022 Care Professional of the Month - Lan Ma
We are pleased to announce Lan Ma as the eighth recipient of Home Instead Markham’s CAREGiver of the Month award for May 2022.
Lan has been a part of the Home Instead Markham since early September of 2021. Right from the get-go, she made a positive impact at the company and has continued to exceed our expectations. Lan is an extremely reliable member of this team. She is always on time, provides frequent check-ins, and has never missed a scheduled shift. Lan’s main scheduled assignment has been at a local retirement home working full time with their residents in a 1 to 1 capacity. She has done a fantastic job representing Home Instead Markham in this facility. The director of care recently reached out to us to let us know how great of job Lan does each day and how much she is truly appreciated there.
Throughout the entirety of Lan’s time at Home Instead, her kindness and passion for helping others has become extremely evident. Lan is originally from Northern China and immigrated to Canada later in her life. When she is not assisting seniors, Lan has numerous hobbies that she loves such as hiking, cooking, and touring art museums. She also enjoys watching movies, specifically comedy movies that make her laugh.
Lan took an interest in becoming a PSW because she believes that it is crucial to provide care and help to seniors, especially throughout the pandemic. She saw firsthand how isolated and alone seniors were during the pandemic. This made her want to step up to provide the support and companionship they required. Lan shows up to every shift with a positive attitude and a smile on her face regardless of the circumstances. Her goal is to not only support her clients physical needs, but to also develop a healthy relationship with them, which in turn allows her to provide better care for the client.
One main aspect that Lan loves about being a member of the Home Instead team is the flexibility and adaptability. She enjoys that the flexibility allows her to have a healthy balance between her social and work life. She really loves that every assignment is unique and appreciates the constant communication from the team that allows her to excel at her job.
