September 2022 Care Professional of the Month - Laverne Elson
We are pleased to announce Laverne Elson as the next recipient of Home Instead Markham’s Care Professional of the Month award for September 2022.
Laverne has been employed by our office since April 2022 and has blessed our team. Passionate, kind, and hardworking are a few of the words that come to mind when you think of Laverne. She is a very important member of our team and continues to exceed our expectations daily. Laverne is very devoted and reliable, evident in the fact that she has never once called off for a shift. We are extremely grateful to have met Laverne (and so are her clients).
Laverne was originally born and raised in Jamacia. She is the youngest of five children and is extremely family orientated. Back in Jamacia, Laverne worked as a supervisor at a boutique and as also a pharmacy assistant. Laverne eventually wanted to make even more of herself, so she started her own taxi business where she was her own boss. When Laverne came to Canada, she took an interest in a career as a Personal Support Worker where her friendly and caring personality made her a perfect fit for the job.
When Laverne is not working at Home Instead she spends her time doing other things she loves including spending quality time with her daughter. She also loves to travel to different countries and experience different cultures. Laverne is an extremely talented singer and even sings solo, praise, and worship at her church.
Laverne is one of our live-in Care Professionals where spends Tuesday to Friday each week “living” with and assisting an elderly couple in their private home. She has been of great help to the couple, supporting them with their personal care, light housekeeping, and meal preparation, all while being a great companion. With Laverne’s assistance, the couple continues to remain living in the comfort of their own home which is extremely important to them. Laverne loves being a part of the Home Instead family and takes extreme pride in ensuring that her clients are comfortable and happy. Even in difficult situations, she is extremely respectful and does her job with dignity. It’s no wonder her clients have taken such a liking to her.
