February 2022 CAREGiver of the Month - Rotessa Abellana
We are pleased to announce Rotessa Abellana as the fifth recipient of Home Instead Markham’s CAREGiver of the Month award for February 2022.
Tessa has been employed by our office since May of 2021 and has been an integral part of our team since the moment she joined. She is a Registered Nurse from the Philippines and came to Canada as an international nursing student. Tessa used to enjoy travelling throughout her home country, especially to different beaches. Since coming to Canada one year ago, she has not been able to continue this hobby due to Covid and schooling. When she is not studying, you can usually find her sipping on coffee and watching Netflix.
Tessa is a very upbeat person who loves taking on new challenges. She has always loved working in the medical field and becoming a CAREGiver was the best way to keep working in the industry here in Canada. Like several of our other employees, Home Instead was the first organization that Tessa worked for after relocating to the country. Her favourite part of working for Home Instead is the consistency of the communication between management and staff. She feels supported knowing that anytime she requires assistance the owners are readily available and more than happy to help, no matter the concern. She has had the pleasure of working with other Home Instead employees and refers to them as kind and friendly towards her, which makes the job that much more enjoyable.
Tessa has probably cared for more of our clients than anyone else on our team due to her eagerness. She readily accepts new challenges and assignments, and thoroughly enjoys assisting those that are in need. Feedback provided from clients and their families about Tessa’s care is always the same: they talk about how lovely she is, how caring she is, and how she always takes initiative to go above and beyond to meet their needs. While they are very appreciative of Tessa, the feeling is more than mutual. She is grateful for the opportunity to meet so many wonderful seniors and hear all the stories that they have to share. They have made her realize that it’s okay to work hard, but that she also must make sure to take time to enjoy and do what she loves. This way when it’s her turn to tell the story of her life, she will be able to do so with a smile!
Dedicated, empathetic, and reliable are some of the words that come to mind when thinking of Tessa. As much as she says that she has learned lots from Home Instead, we would have to say that she has taught us lots too. She is always wearing her “nursing cap” paying such close attention to all her clients to be able to notice if anything looks out of the ordinary. This is so important when it comes to caring for seniors so that they stay safe and healthy. Thanks for all that you do Tessa and congratulations on this well-deserved award!
