December Care Professional of the Month – Leisha Cameron
We are thrilled to announce Leisha Cameron as the recipient of the prestigious Home Instead Markham Care Professional of the Month award for December 2022. Leisha has been a valuable member of the Home Instead Markham team for over a year, and we are incredibly grateful to have her on board.
During her tenure, Leisha has worked with multiple clients, gaining valuable experience, and utilizing her caregiving skills. She is dedicated to building deeper connections with her clients to ensure they receive the best care possible in a comfortable and welcoming environment. With a sweet, soft-spoken, kind-hearted, and caring nature, Leisha is truly one of a kind. She is independent and can tackle any challenge that comes her way.
Leisha currently lives in Toronto with her beautiful 2-year-old daughter. She is an amazing mother who prioritizes her role as a mom above all else. Her nurturing personality makes her not only a great mother but an exceptional caregiver as well. In her free time, Leisha enjoys taking walks, experimenting with new recipes, and pursuing professional development opportunities. She also has a keen interest in traveling and has a goal to check off many countries on her bucket list.
Leisha embarked on a career as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) because she wanted a job that brought a greater purpose to her life. She wanted to make a difference in people's lives and obtaining her PSW certificate allowed her to provide emotional support and companionship to those in need. Before starting her career as a PSW, Leisha worked as an administrative professional for over 15 years. She found her way to the Home Instead team as she was searching for practical work experience to obtain her PSW certificate from Conestoga College. From there, she began to make a significant impact on the lives of many clients.
One of Leisha's favorite aspects of working at Home Instead is that it gives her the opportunity to serve the most vulnerable and be a support to their families. A significant memory that Leisha made during her time as a PSW was when she assisted a family whose loved one requested Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). She was touched by the amount of love the family had for the client and was honored to have been able to serve the client and the family during that difficult time. Leisha readily accepted this very emotional assignment. We were honored to have her help as she travelled to this client home through 55cm of snow last winter when the city of Toronto and surrounding areas were at a standstill.
Congratulations, Leisha, on this well-deserved award. We are incredibly fortunate to have you as a part of our team and look forward to seeing all that you will accomplish in the future.
