We are thrilled to announce Imelda Jambalos as the esteemed recipient of the Home Instead Markham Care Professional of the Month award for January 2024. Imelda's journey, marked by dedication, compassion, and a profound commitment to her clients, epitomizes the values that define our caregiving community.
Hailing from the northern part of the Philippines, Imelda grew up in a large family of nine, where her father worked as a farmer and her mother cared for the household. The family was very close, but they were also quite poor. This upbringing shaped Imelda and influenced her decisions later in life. As a young girl, Imelda dreamt of becoming a nurse, inspired by the elegant uniforms she admired. However, her father wished for her to pursue teaching, a path she reluctantly followed to fulfill her family's expectations. Despite excelling in her studies and becoming a teacher, Imelda realized that it wasn't her true calling. At the age of 24, Imelda embarked on a new chapter and moved to Canada. Driven by her aspiration to help others and pursue her passion for nursing, this led her to study the Personal Support Worker (PSW) program at Centennial College. She quickly found fulfillment in caring for others and embraced her role wholeheartedly. With over 20 years of experience as a PSW, Imelda's dedication to her clients shines through in every interaction.
Outside of her professional life, family holds a special place in Imelda's heart. She treasures spending time with her loved ones and cherishes every moment shared with them. Known for her lively personality and endless laughter, Imelda's family jokes that she's always on the phone chatting with others. If you have not met Imelda, know that if you do, she will leave a lasting impression on you.
Imelda's journey with Home Instead began serendipitously when she mistook our franchise owner Tracy for an Uber driver. What started as a humorous encounter blossomed into a meaningful connection. Imelda appreciates the opportunity to spend quality time with each client at Home Instead, fostering genuine relationships and creating lasting memories. One memorable experience for Imelda was when a client invited her to share dinner, resulting in an evening filled with laughter and heartfelt conversations. Imelda understands the importance of not only providing professional high-quality care, but also building meaningful relationships with her clients.
