The International Franchise Association (IFA) recently named Debbie, Fred and Stephen Franchuk, owners of Home Instead in Calgary, as a 2023 Franchisee of the Year. The Franchuks were honored at the 64th IFA Annual Convention in Phoenix, Arizona, for being outstanding owner-operators.

“Franchisees of the Year exemplify what franchising is all about – providing opportunity, serving others, and fulfilling the dream of business ownership,” said Matthew Haller, President and CEO of the International Franchise Association. “We are proud to recognize the Franchuks with the highest honor IFA awards to individual franchisees, and I have no doubt their work is changing lives and making a lasting community impact.”

The Franchisee of the Year Award recognizes leading franchise owners from IFA member brands whose outstanding performance and contributions help protect, enhance, and promote the franchise business model. Nominated by their parent company, Honor, and franchisor, Home Instead, individuals are selected for their involvement in their communities, embodying the entrepreneurial spirit, fostering a strong and healthy culture with their workforce, and assisting their fellow franchisees when called upon.

“The Franchuks are incredible leaders in our franchise network,” said Linn Free, Senior Vice President of Operations at Honor and Home Instead. “Their dedication to their clients, employees and our franchise network is exceptional, and this award is well deserved.”

Fred and Debbie Franchuk have owned the Home Instead franchise in Calgary since 2009, and their son Stephen joined the business a few years later.

Quarterly blood drives, food drives for the Veterans Food Bank, and charitable contributions to organizations such as the Parkinson’s Association, Meals on Wheels, and Salvation Army Agape Hospice demonstrate their genuine care for the communities they serve.

Debbie, a Registered Nurse, has played a pivotal role in developing and advancing Home Instead's services in Canada. Her extensive work in establishing Nurse Directed Services (NDS) and authoring policies and procedures showcases her dedication to elevating care delivery within the franchise system. Fred's active involvement in government affairs, advocating for favorable wages and policies, demonstrates their commitment to the well-being of all franchisees and their employees.  Stephen leads the support team of more than 200 to meet the care needs of clients and their families.

“Awards like this are a tribute to our key players and Care Professionals,” said Fred Franchuk.  “We are truly grateful for the opportunity to serve older Calgarians and their families.”
