Home Instead is pleased to be supporting the National Institute on Ageing (NIA) on a three-part policy series on long-term care in Canada. The goal of the papers is to help government policy and decision makers, existing care providers and members of the general public to better understand the options available to meet the long-term care needs for Canada’s ageing population.

The first report, Enabling the Future of Long-Term Care in Canada, examines the current state of long-term care across Canada. Author Dr. Samir Sinha, the NIA’s Director of Health Policy Research, identifies a number of challenges, regional variations and, more optimistically, enablers for the future.

"As a provider of in-home care around the world, we know only too well that people want to age on their own terms," said Phyllis Hegstrom, Home Instead Government Affairs Director. "Too often we hear from people across all sectors of society that they wish they had known of our services sooner and this policy series has the potential to help people plan for the way in which they want to age," Hegstrom added.

Home Instead will continue to support the NIA and advocate for policies that support healthy aging and the elimination of ageism. Home Instead commends the NIA for launching the dialogue on preparing for aging and the long-term care options.
